Stage 1: Raw Material Incoming Inspection

Adhesive (Ashland PSA system):

  • Viscosity check: Confirms PSA hasn’t been stored incorrectly (temperature abuse changes viscosity)

Stage 2: Coating Process Monitoring

During coating operations, KSB maintains inline and offline process monitoring.

Inline:

  • Web speed monitoring: maintained within ±1% of set point
  • Clean room particle counter: monitored continuously, coating paused if ISO 7 threshold exceeded
  • UV curing energy monitor (for UV-cured layers): dose verified every 100m

Offline (every 500m production roll):

  • Sample taken and tested for: haze (ASTM D1003), VLT, thickness at 5 points
  • Results logged in production record with roll reference number
  • Any roll failing specification criteria is flagged and set aside pending investigation
  • No flagged roll proceeds to slitting without QC disposition

Stage 3: Adhesive Lamination Quality Check

After PSA application and liner lamination:

  • Adhesive coat weight verified (weight difference method)
  • Liner peel force measured (ASTM D3330 method) — must be within specification range (too easy = risk of liner separation in storage; too hard = difficult installation)
  • Visual inspection for adhesive voids or coating gaps

Stage 4: Final Roll Inspection — “Lighting Chamber” Check

Every production roll before slitting passes through human visual inspection in a dedicated lighting chamber:

  • Rolls inspected under both direct and transmitted light
  • Inspectors look for: gel specs, fisheyes, coating streaks, any visible defect
  • Any roll with defects is marked and either downgraded or rejected
  • Defect rate tracked per production shift and reviewed weekly

Stage 5: Finished Product Testing (Batch Basis)

From each production batch, samples are taken for full product testing:

  • Outbound shipment inspection: packaging integrity before container loading

Batch Traceability

Every finished roll is traceable to:

  • The production batch record (coating date, equipment used, process parameters)
  • The incoming raw material batches (TPU lot, PET lot, PSA lot)
  • The QC results for that batch
